Savannah Christian Preparatory School’s Summer Hendley signed a National Letter of Intent to jump for the track and field team of the Georgia Institute of Technology on November 18, 2015 in the Weeks Media Center.

A four-time state champion in the High Jump and Long Jump, Summer has excelled in the classroom as a High Honor Roll and Headmaster’s List student her entire academic career.  Top level academic success, proven athletic abilities and demonstrated student leadership will make Summer a dynamic addition to the student body at Georgia Tech.

She is the daughter of Chris and Tammy Hendley of Pooler and younger sister to Taylor ’13.

As a Raider Summer ran in the 100m and 4x100m relay as well as excelled in the High Jump and Long Jump.   Summer also is a member of the Competition Cheer squad her freshman and sophomore years that took 2nd place in state all while continuing to cheer and letter the last three years for football.

Athletic accomplishments:

  • Summer broke all of SCPS school records in the long jump and high jump in her freshman year.
  • Personal bests are” Long Jump- 17’8”, High Jump- 5’5”, and 4x100m relay 51.56 seconds.
  • She will return to the track in the spring to defend her Georgia Class A Private State Title in the high jump that she has won the past three years.
  • Summer also won the Georgia Class A Private State Title in long jump her freshman year, placed 3rd her sophomore year and was State Runner Up her junior year.
  • In her freshman year she was named the best new comer to the track team and received the J. Ferrell Henry Award for the highest number of points in field events at the Georgia State track and field meet.
  • In her sophomore year her 4×100 meter relay team came in 4th at state and she was named girls track most outstanding athlete.
  • Summer was named to the Best of Preps All Greater Savannah 1st team for track her freshman, sophomore and junior years.
  • She received the SCPS most valuable runner award her junior year.
  • In May 2013 and May 2015, she was named the athlete of the week on ESPN radio for track.

 

Academic accomplishments:

  • Summer is an AP scholar and has been on the High Honor Roll or Headmaster List her entire four years in high school.
  • She was the recipient of the Furman University and Presbyterian College Scholar award her junior year.
  • Summer will pursue a degree in Engineering at Georgia Tech.
  • Summer is a member of the Spirit Crew, Key Club, National Honor Society, Beta Club, S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Cooking club and the Spanish club.
  • She was selected as a Peer Leader her sophomore, junior and senior year.

 

Interesting Facts:

  • When Summer was 14, she became interested in modeling.  Her first opportunity to model came when she auditioned for Charleston Fashion Week in 2014.
  • In addition to being selected to walk for multiple designers, she was selected as one of the top 10 out of 200 models to compete in the Rock the Runway competition.
  • She walked in Charleston Fashion Week again in 2015 and has been selected for 2016 as well.
  • She has since been on photo shoots in New York, Charleston, Atlanta and Savannah and is signed with Ludlow Scout agency based in Atlanta and New York.
