Good News

  • A big “THANK YOU” to our PTF for their generous gift of a class set of ukuleles! The students are having so much fun learning to play them.  Miss Shealy believes ukuleles may be on many Christmas lists this year.

Christ in Action

  • Mrs. Eubank and Mrs. Hayes, along with their first grade students, shared the love of Christmas (and Christ) in chapel today.  Students sang Joy to the World, and Mrs. Hayes introduced John Fender, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Pooler.  He shared the gifts of Christmas that Mary, Joseph, and we all receive through Jesus Christ.

What’s Coming Soon?

  • Pre-Kindergarten will have a pajama day on Thursday, December 15th. They will drink hot chocolate and eat donuts.  The fifth grade will also come visit and help us make reindeer food!
  • Pre-Kindergarten will go on a field trip to River Street Sweets to see how their sweets are made! We will also visit the Westin to see all of the gingerbread houses!
  • The PTF Used Uniform Sale will be held on Friday, December 16th.  Stop by and enjoy some great deals! The times are 7:30 am – 9:00 am, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, and 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Classroom News

  • Kindergarten studied x-rays while learning more about the letter “X.”  Using paint and q-tips, the students created their very own “x-ray” of their arms.

  • Last week’s blog showed Mrs. Wigand’s third grade class using the Chromebooks to create a Google Slide based on the students’ research of an ecosystem. Check out their finished projects by clicking HERE!
  • Mrs. Connelly’s class read Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner.  “Last month my third grade class read Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner.  They enjoyed creating a poster advertising the dog sled race that the main character, Little Willy, was entering.  He is hoping to win the race and collect $500 in order to save his grandfather’s potato farm.  You may want to read this novel about the love a grandson has for his grandfather and see if Little Willy is able to save the farm.”

  • The 5th graders had a blast getting into groups and using the Chromebooks to make up their own Kahoot Quiz to test their classmates’ knowledge!

Resource News

  • Spanish Club participants have been learning about Autumn celebrations that occur in different Spanish speaking countries. The students have decorated a cake for El Dia de los Muertos from Mexico, made their own Guatemalan Kites for All Saints Day, and constructed an ancient Mayan pyramid that you could visit in Mexico.

  • All lower school students participated in the Hour of Code this week.  Students in PreK- 1st grade worked on their coding skills using Kodable.com and 2nd -5th grade students participated in the Minecraft Hour of Code.  Each student earned a certificate from Mrs. Porter and Mrs. Crosby after coding in the computer lab.

  • In Art, Mrs. Gray taught the fifth graders about perspectives by having them draw and paint a “Winter Landscape.”

  • Madeline Campbell was awarded the Gold Reading Counts Award for earning 500 points!  Mrs. Crosby also shared that Madeline has read over two million words. Congratulations, Madeline!

Did you Know?

  • Lower School chapels will be held in the Dining Hall at 8:45 am for the month of December.
