Savannah Christian Preparatory School’s Turner Stevens has been selected as the final “Student of the Year” candidate competing in this year’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man & Woman of the Year” campaign.  Turner is a junior honor student and a member of the marching band.  After graduation, Turner plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology to major in economics and international affairs.  He is participating in the 2017 campaign to honor the memory of his friends and family who have suffered from cancer.

What is the Student of the Year Campaign?  Here is information about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man, Woman, and Student of the Year” campaign’s website.

Everyone wins when cancer loses!

Whether moved by a personal experience with blood cancer or motivated to make an impact, there are men and women all over this country committing their support to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year campaign

Candidates compete in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors: the Boy & Girl of the Year.  The competition is a culmination of innovative ways to raise money for blood cancer research.  Each candidate connects with family, friends and business contacts for as much support as possible to be awarded the title of Man, Woman or Student of the Year.  It’s a title that goes beyond just winning, it’s one that brings significant research possibilities, saving the lives of patients in need.

It’s an honor that brings so much hope for so many people.  Get Involved.  Raise your hand and compete for Man, Woman or Student of the Year.  Lives depend on it!

WHAT
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a fundraising competition among a select group of individuals in the community.  While each candidate conducts their own campaign, all candidates are united by one goal: to use their leadership skills to raise funds to help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives.

HOW
By accepting the nomination, candidates will have 10 weeks beginning the day of the kickoff to accumulate the most “votes” and every dollar raised counts as one vote.  The male and female candidates who raise the most votes during the campaign are named the Man & Woman of the Year and the top fundraising Student will win the title Student of the Year.  Winners will be announced at the Grand Finale Gala.

WHO
Candidates run in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year, who are local blood cancer survivors and sources of inspiration.  Candidates are people who are passionate about finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.  From corporate presidents to ultra-marathoners, the diverse candidates and nominees always have two qualities in common: humanity and passion.

WHY
More than 1 million people in the United States are living with, or are in remission from a blood cancer.  Someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer every four minutes.  New cases of leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma will account for nine percent of the 1.5 million new cancer diagnoses in the United States this year.

We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations.  Proceeds from the 2017 Man & Woman of the Year campaign support our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
