SCPS Science and Engineering Club – Guiding students in future career selection
The Science and Engineering Club kicked off its “Lunch and Learn” series in November. The club’s first guest was Dr. Cameron Coates from Armstrong State University. Dr. Coates is a professional engineer, a college professor and coordinator for the Interim Engineering Studies program at Armstrong. Dr. Coates spoke to students about what inspired him to become an engineer, his personal career selection, and his education and work experiences. He spoke to students about the engineering opportunities at Armstrong which allow for transfers to the Georgia Institute of Technology, and he also reported on the newly-developed dual degree program. Comments from students were very supportive. Senior Amelia Britt said, “It was great to hear the opinion and feedback from a professional engineer as guidance for my future career selection.” Club president Michala Calvert commented, “I didn’t know what the requirements were for transferring from Armstrong to Georgia Tech. I am thankful that Dr. Coates was able to give us information on the transfer process!” The club hopes this is the first of many similar sessions that highlight the opportunities that lie ahead for Savannah Christian graduates.
