As the 2016 S.C.P.S. Boys’ Track and Field season drew to a close, athletes and coaches recalled a season of resounding achievement. Johnny Lewis and Percy Combay, two of the team’s athletes, both committed to run for the University of South Carolina. Moreover, Demetris Robertson made it to sectionals for the 200 m and the 100 m while Henri White, Percy Combay, Johnny Lewis, Demetris Robertson, Casey Amick, and Seth Bruno made it to sectionals as a 4-by-4 m relay team. Demetris also made it to sectionals for the long jump, Casey for the triple jump, Evan Reese for shot put, Johnny for the 400 m, Tyler Pelkey and Henri for the 800 m, and Johnny, Kadari Mitchell, Seth Bruno, and Demetris for the 4-by-100 m relay. Unfortunately Tyler was unable to advance to state. In the distance events, Daniel Harvey and Hugh Keller made it directly to state for the 1600 m, and Harry Meyer and Noah Perez advanced for the 3200 m; Noah Perez holds the season P.R. in the 3200m. Judging from the team’s results throughout the season, resounding success at the state meet is anticipated. Throughout the 2016 season, athletes Henri, Percy, Demetris, and Johnny smashed the school record for the 4-by-400 relay with a time of 3:31.10. The 2016 Boys’ Track and Field season was one of considerable achievement, the result of the athletes’ immense determination and persistence.
