Scholar Athlete, Johnny Lewis, Signs Track Scholarship

Savannah Christian Preparatory School’s Johnny Lewis signed a National Letter of Intent to run track for the University of South Carolina at Beaufort on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 1:15 pm in the beautiful pecan grove on the Chatham Parkway campus.   He is the son of Adrienne Chambers and Johnny Lewis Jr.   Coach Larry Kimball from USCB’s Track and Field program joined Johnny’s family for his signing.

Aside from earning a 3.4 GPA as an honor student while at Savannah Christian Prep, Johnny has played football under Coach Donald Chumley earning First Team All-Region honors as a wide receiver and Second Team All-Region as a running back.

As a Raider, Johnny has become a four-year lettermen in track & field as well as having performed at a top level in football.  Last year’s sectional qualifier, Johnny ranked 6th in the state in the 400m.  Currently, he is a member of the #2 ranked 4×400 team in the state with a school record of 3:33:47.

When asked about his decision to sign with USCB, Johnny responded that he loved that the program was close to home, had good educational programs, had nice facilities, and his friend, SCPS alumna and former track star, Maiya Cooper, attends USCB.  Johnny plans to major in nursing.

Some of his highlights include:

  • Time of 52.48 on his 400 m this year
  • Time of 23.52 on his 200 m this year
  • Two school records on both relay teams for the 4×100 and 4×400
  • Finish 1st place in the 400m at the Southeast Bulloch Track Meet, 2nd place finish on 400m Savannah Country Day Meet, and our 4x400m team took 1st place in the Dick Frames Invitational in Macon this past weekend.
